New Student Greetings!

It's hard being the new person!  We recognize that difficult transition and welcome our new students during getting-to-know-you receptions on August 25.  Guidance staff will meet with our new students in grade level groups during the first related arts periods on August 25. 

SCRUBS "U":

Is your student considering a career in Healthcare?Register for the Roper St. Francis Healthcare SCRUBS “U”Featuring:Quarterly topics /Register for the topics of interest to you/ Evening sessions / Minimum age 13 / Learn from experts in healthcare who love their work. Registration required by calling 402-2273. Magnet School Information:

Applications for the 2017-2018 school year will be posted as soon as available.  Deadlines & Admissions Criteria differ for each school, so please visit: http://www.ccsdschools.com/Schools/Magnet.php for specific information for each school.  See "Magnet School Application" section for further details, deadlines, etc.

PSAT Info:

  • Informational letters and permission slips will be sent home in September
  • Forms and Fees required to take PSAT
  • PSAT will take place at FJMS on October 19
  • PSAT Score reports are returned in winter

Bibliotherapy "Book Club" Groups:

Groups for boys and girls in all grade levels will be led by all guidance counselors.  Each group will read and discuss a different book during weekly lunch sessions.

8th Grade Individual Graduation Plans:

All 8th graders are required to consult with a counselor (Mrs. Ciucci) and parent/guardian prior to high school registration regarding course selection choices, academic progress and goals, and individual interests during a 30 minute conference.  Please contact Erica Ciucci to schedule your child's IGP meeting.  Refer to the IGP Folder (tab on left) for specific information and resources regarding this process. 


Bullying Prevention Program / Peer Mediators

Ms. Luhrs will visit each classroom to deliver the school's peer relations & anti-bullying message every 9 weeks of school.

The Peer Mediation Program Training will also begin in September.  Congratulations to our 2016-2017 Peer Mediators!  They are: Teeyarna Forrest, Yuria Sloane, Jaylen Beldon, Savannah Hudson, Grayson Pedone, Hudson Graham, Andrew Mitchum, Katie Ward, Bailey King, Ryan Wissel, Annie Davis, Elle Johnson

Grief Counseling
Shannon's Hope Bereavement Camp for Children will be October 8-9 at Camp St. Christopher on Seabrook Island.  This is for children ages 6-15 who have experienced loss and death.  For more information of grief resources, or program application, please visit www.bridgessc.org or contact Karen Luhrs at 762-6530.


Career Exploration
All students grades 6-8 participate are encouraged to explore the world of work, through taking online interest inventories/career assessments, participating in the school wide job shadow day (February) and other events, such as the school wide career & college fair (spring), career speaking events (ongoing), off campus career based tours and extended learning opportunities and classroom guidance workshops.

Our students are recognized and rewarded for going that extra mile to act kind and do good for others without being asked.
