Guidance Program
The FJMS Guidance Program is under the direction of Karen Luhrs (karen_luhrs@charleston.k12.sc.us), lead counselor. Two additional counselors, Paula Engle (paula_engle@charleston.k12.sc.us) and Erica Ciucci (erica_ciucci@charleston.k12.sc.us), serve students through the guidance program. The counselors may be reached by email or by calling the front office at 762-2740.
The guidance program works diligently to provide services for our FJMS students. Counseling is focused on personal/social, academic, and career areas. Students in grades 6, 7, and 8 may receive individual, group, or classroom guidance. Parents, teachers, or our administrators may request guidance services for our students.
Special programs to assist students in academic areas are also provided to students under the lead of Ms. Luhrs. A program currently in place is the Heroes Program, which is part of a Citadel outreach effort. Ms. Luhrs works closely with the representatives from the Citadel to review and assist the Citadel representatives with information to help the students in the program.
You may also be aware of up-to-date guidance information through our monthly school newsletter. Our School-To-Career site on E-Chalk is another resource for finding out news from the counselors.
We would like to always thank our parents for providing us with your most valuable possession, your children. Continuing to assist your child in any area of need is our goal as a department. We feel fortunate to work with your children at Ft. Johnson Middle School.
